ABOUT  ARICA

Arica is a jazz and R&B vocal powerhouse whose talent spans all genres—moving effortlessly through R&B, neo-soul, gospel, jazz, hip-hop soul, pop, and country. Born and raised in Indianapolis, she trained in the city’s Performing Arts Magnet Program, performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, led her high school jazz band, sang with the girl group Spectrum, and earned a coveted spot in the elite Madrigals all four years. Onstage, she took lead roles in classic musicals—including Sarah in Guys and Dolls, as well as Cabaret and The Pirates of Penzance.

At Fisk University in Nashville, Arica joined the multi-award-winning, Grammy-winning, world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers® under the direction of the late Dr. Paul T. Kwami, touring nationally (Abyssinian Baptist Church, the Ryman Auditorium) and internationally (Umbria Jazz Festival, Italy). She has worked with Alicia Keys; performed at the CMA Awards; and appeared in the “Roger Miller Remembered” tribute. Additional credits include background vocals for Take 6, Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald, and Trisha Yearwood; an appearance with Shania Twain on “God Bless the Child”; the Bobby Jones Gospel show; and the national anthem for Tennessee Titan Keith Bullock’s Celebrity Basketball Game.

Arica has headlined the Wildhorse Saloon—one of Nashville’s largest stages—helped premiere the TV show Not Just Country at The Rutledge, and recorded voiceovers for Comcast. After a run through Denver hot spots (Herman’s Hideaway, The Kasbah, Jazz at Jack’s, Dazzle, and Cleatz), she’s now back in the Midwest and South, performing in Nashville, Atlanta, and Indianapolis—including Indy’s own The Jazz Kitchen. She has also performed benefit concerts for her alma mater, Fisk University. Her latest studio work includes collaborations with Grammy-winning producer Daryl Simmons and Kevon Edmonds of After 7. Guided by influences from her mother to Anita Baker, Stephanie Mills, Angela Winbush, Phyllis Hyman, and Ledisi, Arica delivers timeless music with a modern, unmistakably her sound.
